A dormer is a box-like structure that projects from the roof. It can have a pitched or flat roof and typically contains a window. When building a dormer conversion, we install at least one dormer into the existing roof, but loft conversions often include multiple dormers.
With a mansard conversion, we alter the roof pitch to the rear of the property to make it nearly vertical. We also fit dormer windows into this side of the roof. Consequently, mansard loft conversions create more usable floor space than dormer conversions.
Rooflight, or Velux, conversions are the simplest type of conversion. We do not alter the roof in any way other than by adding rooflights, resulting in relatively quick and affordable projects. However, the existing loft must have plenty of head and floor space for a rooflight conversion to be effective.
Hip-to-gable conversions are suitable for detached and semi-detached properties with a sloped end roof. Our builders effectively straighten this roof to create a gable end wall, creating a significant amount of space inside. We can also install dormer windows.
